Governors’ Page

 A warm welcome to the Governors’ pages of the College website.

We hope these pages give you a better understanding of who we are and what we do to support the College and hold it to account for the quality of education it provides. Governors are all volunteers. We come from a variety of backgrounds and can therefore count on a wide range of experience and expertise to support our work. We have governors with backgrounds in farming, finance, management, retail, conservation, education and many other areas. Some governors are sole traders or run small businesses and the majority of governors are parents; a third of governors currently have children at the College.  We meet twice a term, to steer the work of the College and oversee all aspects of college life.

The governing body is pleased to have appointed Alan Doust as headteacher, who took up his appointment in April 2011.  Since then he has worked closely with the staff and governors to bring about substantial improvements in many areas. He has focused the College very sharply on the quality of teaching and learning, and reorganised and strengthened leadership at all levels. He has also improved the way students are assessed (and dressed!). Increasingly, students know where they are in every subject, what they’re aiming for, and what they need to do to improve.  We can also see the impact of work done to identify and support those who are underachieving and need help. Most of all, students tell us that they feel more positive and are enjoying their time at the College.

We believe that the College can now move from strength to strength, in partnership with parents. Governors are determined that we enable all of our young people to “develop the necessary skills and attributes to be the best that they can be”.
