GCSE Results 2018

This year’s GCSE results have been phenomenal for The Community College, Bishop’s Castle. Overall 26% of grades were 7 or higher (equivalent to the old A/A*), with 8% graded a 9 (described by Ofqual as an 'exceptional performance' in an exam).

Top performing subjects were English, Languages, History and Science. A quarter of all those studying Biology achieved a Grade 9. Highest performing students were Olivia Lempert with eight Grade 9s and two Grade 8s (pictured) and George Lawrence with six Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and an A*. Although for most subjects this was their first year through the new qualifications, for Maths and English it was their second, and these two subjects saw sizeable further improvements on their 2017 results: 87% of students achieved a pass in English and 78% in Maths.
Mr Doust (headteacher) said ‘Results day was just wonderful to witness, with many, many happy students and teachers. They have all have worked so hard for this, and they deserve the huge success they are seeing now. We are proud of them all. These new GCSEs were a bit of an unknown, particularly the top end grades, but we have absolutely nailed it. These results follow a very positive Ofsted inspection in June, and they confirm what we already know – The Community College is a very good school.’
